Holidays In Cartagena

Visiting Spain

Spain is absolutely outstanding; it is that type of country that attracts millions and millions of visitors every year without any efforts, as its spectacular beauty is the best advantage a country can have. Visiting Spain is described by the ones who have already done it as a lifetime and life changing experience, as something that will offer you wonderful locations costa brava and the possibilities to try the fragrances and the perfumes of a very special nation! You have to try a holiday in Spain! I assure you that you will never regret your choice.

The beautiful Cartagena

Cartagena is one of the most popular destinations in Spain, Murcia’s second largest city and one of the most important and active ports in the country. The history of the city is a very old, interesting and rich one; founded by the Carthaginians no sooner than the 3rd century BC, as even the name indicates it, Cartagena was conquered by the Romans during the famous Punic War. The Romans helped the city reach its peak, transforming it into a very flourishing one because of two reasons: the nearby silver mine that started to be exploited and the Garum fish sauce that was much appreciated in the entire Roman Empire. Unfortunately, the Vandals destroyed Cartagena in the 5th century, but tourists can still visit some remarkable ruins, such as the Roman Theatre, dating back to the 1st century BC.

Places to visit

There are many more places to visit in Cartagena besides the Roman Theatre. A fine example is the Nuestra Senora Asuncion Cathedral, built in the 13th century; today, only its ruins survive, as the Cathedral was almost entirely destroyed during the Civil War. Castillo Conception is the beautiful fortress you’ll find right above the port, built in the 13th century in such a way as to incorporate the ruins of the outstanding Roman Amphitheatre. The Santo Domingo Church and the Iglesia Del Carmen, displaying original Neoclassical and Baroque architectural styles are also worth visiting.

The 19th century Iglesia de Caridad deserves your attention thanks to the spectacular Baroque paintings hosted behind its walls. Last but not least, visit the City Hall, the Aguirre Palace and the Casino, which are fine examples of modernist architecture. As you can see, Cartagena is a place full of history and with numerous monuments that deserve your attention, so consider it as destination for one of your future holidays!

All About the Canary Islands

A happy group of islands

The Canary Islands represent one of the most popular and famous tourist destinations in Spain, attracting millions of visitors every year. Their climate is a spectacular one; the landscapes seem like being taken from another world, while the inhabitants are welcoming and always in a good mood. These are definitely the ingredients for a perfect holiday in location villa piscine espagne, especially if you add to them the ample beaches covered with fine sands and the shallow waters of an unbelievable blue. Tourists describe the islands as being a paradisiacal group, so why not consider them as destination for a future holiday? It can be the memorable holiday you always dreamt of.

The islands and their attractions

The wonderful climate the islands enjoy, with mild temperatures all year long and hundreds of days of sunshine made them a preferred destination for tourist from all the corners of the world. You can choose either one of the large islands (Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife, and El Hierro) or one of the small islands (Lobos, Alegranza, Roque del Oeste). Either way, the beaches that patiently wait for tourists to get a nice tan have all fine sands; what is very interesting about the islands is that each and every single one of them has a very strong individual personality, as the landscape is radically different to all the other ones. It is in fact one of the main attraction factors and one of the main advantages of the islands.

The climate as an attraction

Visitors say that the Islands enjoy an eternal spring. They are located very close to the hot African coast and just 4 degrees from the Cancer tropic, so their climate is mostly subtropical. However, if you decide to visit Tenerife, Gran Canaria or La Palma, be prepared for tropical rainfalls! If you choose instead Lanzarote or Fuerteventura, there are no risks, as their climate is very dry.

Enjoying the cuisine

In the Canaries, you have the chance to taste the unusual combinations of Spanish cuisine, Latin-American and African influences. One of the most famous recipes is the Papas Arrugadas; these are potatoes that inhabitants boil in salted water. They are served with the hot Mojo picon, a sauce containing parika, chili peppers, garlic and oil. I assure you that the islands are the perfect place for an unforgettable holiday, so take them into consideration for the future! They really deserve your attention!

A Spectacular Girona

The Spanish experience

It is said that you have to live at least once in your lifetime the outstanding Spanish experience; well, whoever says it has probably fallen in love with the country. In fact, it is almost impossible not to fall in love with it after you visit it once, as its beauties seem like being taken from another galaxy. It is unreal the feeling you get when you see all those Alcazabas (the Moorish mosques), the Arab palaces, the modernist architecture, the Roman remains and the breathtaking landscapes. You will adore it!

Choosing the Spanish destination

Spain has hundreds and hundreds of places to visit location vacances espagne and each with its individual identity, with its unique attractions and its own welcoming people. If you are in trouble with choosing the right destination for you, I can help you by recommending Girona. Girona is the capital city of the beautiful Costa Brava and a popular destination thanks to its location: just 100 kilometers away from the famous Barcelona and around 60 kilometers away from France.

Girona is a city that will attract you with its past, especially if you are a history lover, as its heritage is a very rich one. The historic center of the city is extremely well preserved and its old walls, built by the Romans (who also founded the city) are well conserved, so worth visiting. If you love sightseeing, don’t miss the Santa Maria Cathedral; its construction started in the 11th century and ended only in the 18th century, which led to the interesting combination of architectural elements: Romanesque, Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic, these are the periods displayed by the walls of the Cathedral.

The Justice Palace, also known as Casa Pastors and the Pia Almoina, a building built in the 14th century in a Gothic style are two other monuments that you are not allowed to miss. The former Jewish Quarter, with its narrow, medieval alleys patiently waits to be discovered and explored, so allocate a couple of hours from your free time to it! The Moorish Bathes represent another important attraction for tourists; built in 1194, the bathes were used by the inhabitants of Girona until the 15th century. If you visit Girona with your lover, one of the four bridges that link the two parts of the city represent perfect locations for romantic walks, so offer them some of your attention! Enjoy Girona!

Visiting Navarra

Navarra is not one of the biggest regions in Spain, but it surely is a beautiful one, with a long list of things to do and places to visit. The region has a very agitated history, with France, Aragon, the Bask land and Castile playing important roles in its development. It is this history that most attracts tourists to Navarre, as the monuments and the buildings lie as testimonies for the past events. Navarra can be described as a region with an impressive monumental richness, thanks to Saint James’ Way, the route followed by thousands of pilgrims every year, so make sure you have enough time at your disposal for visiting all the Cathedrals, castles and palaces.

However, these are not Navarre’s only attractions; cities such as Artajona, still surrounded by its medieval walls, Estella Olite, the city where Navarre’s kings had their seat or Tudela are definitely worth a visit. The capital city of Navarre is Pamplona, the most famous Spanish city regarding its dangerous and full of adrenaline tradition: bullfighting. The festival that takes place in Pamplona every year having as main event the running of bulls is one of the most famous celebrations in the country. Spain - The Hidden Wonders Of Alcoy

The city of bridges, hidden between mountains and lying at the junction of four rivers, Alcoy is a historically rich, culturally eclectic city full of interesting sights. About 45 km north of Alicante, it is easy to reach from the larger city and worth the trip.

The City

Founded and built around the cotton and paper industry, Alcoy has grown into its own over the past two centuries. It began its modernization during the last part of the Spanish industrial revolution and hasn’t stopped. With a population of around 60,000, it is a growing center of culture in Spain. The first Spanish industrial school was founded here and its central streets are adorned with classical architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Inside Alcoy, the bridges that cross the four rivers are renowned for their structural beauty. The Archeological Museum features much of the town’s history and focuses on its Greco-Roman roots. There are even several archeological sites within the city such as La Serreta and El Puig that date from the 5th century B.C. The historical significance of the sites can be seen in the remnants of the many towns and villages from throughout the ages. From a 12th century castle and the Na Valora tower of the 13th century to the hermitage of San Antonio Abad of the 18th century, a tourist can retrace the footsteps of ancient peoples and get a glimpse back in time.

The Festival

The fiesta of the Moros y Cristianos is celebrated vigorously in Alcoy from the 21st to the 24th of April every year. This is the most important cultural event in the city and everyone gets involved and helps to organize.

The first day of the festival is dedicated to musicians. Bands and street performers play traditional music all day and then gather in the city square to play a celebratory hymn in the evening. On the second day, visitor participation is encouraged in the colorful processions of ancient armies. In the morning, the Christians will enter the city followed by the Moors in the evening. On the third day, the celebrations continue with tributes to San Jorge or Saint George. The final day sees the recreation of the famous battle el Alardo. The two armies march down the streets, weapons in hand and making a lot of noise. After a great showing of military might, the ambassadors sign the peace treaty in the town square.

With so many fun things to do and see, Alcoy is a must-see on any vacation to the Alicante region of Spain and location villa costa brava. Take the entire family as there are plenty of interesting activities for everyone.

The Coastal Region of Costa Blanca and its Attractions

This land of sun and surf has perfect weather nearly year round and is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world. With vibrant, modern cities like villa espagne, Alicante and Benidorm and quaint sea-villages such as Javea and Denia, there is a town, an atmosphere, which will suit anyone.

The Big Cities

The capital of the province, Alicante, is the cultural and economic center of the region. With tourist packed beaches and a pulsating night-life, it is a modern city in the middle of a growth spurt. Close to Alicante is another large town, but not nearly as big as its sister city, Elche, is known for its massive palm forests. The residential architecture of Elche is unique and stunningly beautiful with its compact design and pastel tones.

The entertainment metropolis of the area is Benidorm. With literally hundreds of bars and clubs, it is the party-goers dream destination. The beaches of Benidorm offer a relaxing place to rest up after a night of hitting the clubs. Within these large cities are ultra-modern accommodations and five-star dining. Benidorm and Alicante offer everything that cities like L.A. and New York do and sometimes more.

The Small Villages

The countryside of the Costa Blanca region can be stunningly breath-taking. Driving along the coastal highway, tourists are blessed with views of ocean cliffs drenched with rainbow strewn spray. Almond orchards and orange groves dot the hillside between villages surrounded by picturesque, terraced buildings. Javea and Denia are small fishing towns painted vibrant pastels that almost jut from the cliffside. Colorful Moraira and Villajoyosa seem to harken to a medieval period of knights and sleepy hamlets.

Other Attractions

Continuing to follow the coastal highway will lead a tourist to many theme parks. With waterslides and roller-coasters, Costa Blanca’s theme park industry has some of the best rides in the world. The beaches throughout the region offer a mix of secluded, white-sand gems all the way to tourist packed, bar and restaurant lined extravaganzas.

With a well-developed infrastructure and industry, the Costa Blanca region offers countless attractions. For the young, partying tourist, Benidorm and Alicante’s bars and clubs would be an attractive destination. A family might enjoy the quiet solitude of Denia or Javea. Regardless of the taste of the person, there is something to whet everyone’s appetite in Costa Blanca.

Beautiful Estepona

If you are looking for a destination that has tradition, beauty, adventure and history, then location villas and Estepona is the place for you!

Found on the Costa de Sol, on the West Coast of Spain, with 21 Km of coast line to explore, it is easy to understand why Walt Disney first thought of this area for Euro Disney – later moved to France.

With its 325-day a year sunshine, due to its micro climate caused by the Sierra Bermeja Mountains, this really is a year round destination.

There is not a lot of information about the history of this area, but the ever present charm of the area, the working Harbour (where there are daily auctions for fresh sea food right off the boat!) and the casual residents, lends one to believe that this charming city has been around for a very long time. Influence and descendents from the Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs are found in Estepona. Few ruins are still visible, but there are archaeological deposits from the Roman Epoch. Prominent monuments, such as the Church of the Virgin of Remedies and the Tower of the Clock are great places to see, and while you are out site seeing, why not stop in at the grand properties on display, such as that of the Marquess of Mondéjar.

If History and site seeing are not on your priority list, be sure to pack your bikini, hiking boots and camera! With a multitude of water sports, Tapas bars, day trips to a Safari Park, mountains to climb, golf courses abound  and things to eat and drink are everywhere, you will certainly find an activity for every member of the family! There is also Spains first official naturalist site – the nudist beach Costa Natura. Here no bikinis are required

Plan your trip around these dates to enjoy the festivals with the locals:

15 May – San Isidro Labrador (Agricultural and Religious Celebration)

23 June – Quema de los bigotes de San Juan (Traditional Night Celebration)

July – Feria y fiestas Mayores (Annual Town Festival)

16 July – Virgen del Carmen (Fisherman’s Religious Celebrations).

Being able to pack all of these exciting activities in to one hassle free holiday should be easy to do. Remember to look for all inclusive deals, and be sure to chat to fellow travelers or locals for more exciting activities.

Once you have decided to move on to the rest of Spain, catch a train from Malaga to Barcelona. You will be taken into the Spanish interior, before reaching the Mediterranean Sea.

While in Barcelona, be sure to check out Gaudi’s Art at the Parc Guell.

Accommodation in Barcelona is easy to find, the public transport is efficient and can get you pretty much anywhere you would like to be.
